To park, it is best to find somewhere on the road as the parking is just in front of the hotel, limited and up a hill. Plenty of places on the adjacent roads.
The initial interior of the hotel is nice, welcoming, clean and smells good. We were told on arrival that payment hasn't been taken as their system hasn't been communicating with NatWest. A call prior to staying to inform us would have helped as I hadn't budgeted to pay for the stay as thought I already had.
We were given our key to a twin room. Corridors still smelling nice. We arrive into a twin room which stinks of smoke. The room is bare, no pictures, no toiletries. Just two beds, wardrobe, towels and a kettle with some refreshments. We had to go to the local shop to buy shower gel and a candle as the room honestly stank. The mattresses were awful and when you sat on them, they pretty much touched the bed base. The curtains are thin and let light in which is fine when you want to get up and just leave.
When I got home, the top I had worn to bed still smelt of smoke. For me, when rooms have been non smoking for years, I could not understand how this room smelt so bad. So avoid room 36 if you're not a smoker... At one point I debated pulling the mattresses into the corridor which smelt much fresher!
My son and I were on a budget so this was our budget friendly option but I would not stay here again, even for £53.
The staff who welcomed us were lovely and I would say was the only plus side to this stay.
